Getting started with leveraging the Internet of Things (IoT) data in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central using services from Microsoft Azure is easier than you may think.
You can use IoT for almost anything, but a few common business scenarios are:
- Tracking packages (where’s my parcel?)
- Counting inventory in real-time (how much do I really have in my warehouse?)
- Guiding manufacturing processes using IoT telemetry from industrial machinery
- Monitoring machines to discover maintenance issues before the machines break down
We’ve created an article which provides you with a fun example of how to leverage IoT data in Business Central. The article describes how to build a cookie jar that will notify you when it’s nearly empty, and connect it to Business Central so that you can use the supply chain features to refill it.
Although the descriptions are specific to the cookie jar, the concepts apply to any IoT project and can be copied and adapted to business needs. If you want to learn more, read the full article: Azure IoT and Business Central.
Note: You’ll need an Azure subscription to replicate the steps in the article.
